Edinburgh trip

Ali and planned a trip to Edinburgh, I hadn't been to Edinburgh since I was five and I was interested in seeing the place properly. So we booked a hotel and train deal on the internet.

We parked the car at the station with just enough time to get our tickets and find our platform.

It only took us an hour and twenty minutes to get to Edinburgh from Carlisle.

When we arrived at Waverly station I then used my phone to help me find our hotel.

We quickly unpacked and then headed out for a look around

Edinburgh Castle
The first main place that I recognised was Edinburgh Castle. It was a really good feature of the city and useful to navigate by because the city is built around it.

Top of Salisbury Crags

In the late afternoon we decided to have a walk up Salisbury Crags so that we could get a good understanding of the layout of the city and also to catch the sunset.

Princes Street Garden

We spent some time looking round the Christmas market in Princes Street Gardens.
In the evening we had a bite eat and then we headed to the Grass market for a pint.

The following day we had a good wander around the city looking at several different landmarks and going to art galleries.

Melville monument

Scott monument

The Nelson Monument and National monument.

We walked up Calton Hill and looked at the monuments up there.

To finish the trip off we booked onto the 'Underground City of the Dead' tour. It was very interesting and I would have liked to do another.  The tour told us a bit about the hsitory of the Edinburgh Vaults and some of the horrid things that happened there. see     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edinburgh_Vaults

After the tour we got the train back to Carlisle.

The trip was good fun and I would definitely like to visit Edinburgh again.
