Clough head to Seat Sandal via (Great Dodd, Watson Dodd, Stybarrow Dodd, Raise, White Side, Helvellyn, Nethermost Pike, Dollywagon Pike)

We got all of our equipment for a walk and an overnight camp. We started by Worthwaite and headed up Clough Head. We didn't set off until late in the afternoon to avoid the heat of the day and so we didn't get to our camp site too early.

Clough Head (726m)
The climb up to Clough head was a little bit tiring but eventually we got up.

Great Dodd (857m)
Once we got to the of Clough Head the walk got a little bit easier with less climbing.

Leaving Great Dodd for Watson Dodd

Watsons Dodd (789m)

Stybarrow Dodd (843)

Raise (883)
I had to remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
White Side (863)
We planned a campsite near water so that we could fill up. We had to walk down the hill quite a bit before we found water. As soon as we stopped we got our stoves out and made a hot meal.

Our camp site at Helvellyn Gill
I got up at 7am after a restless night, made some breakfast and then got packed up.

Helvellyn Summit (950m)
When we got to Helvellyn it was a little cloudy but I was still buzzing to be up the second highest mountain in England.
Nethermost Pike (891)

Dollywagon Pike (858) with Sharp edge in background

Towards the end of the walk my feet started to ache because my laces on my boots were not tight enough.

Seat Sandal (736)

The top of Seat Sandal. We had to walk up it again as we
didn't get a photo the first time.
A picture of Seat Sandal later in  the year.
When we got to Seat Sandal both our cameras ran out of battery so we couldn't take a picture.

When we got to Grassmere we got a taxi back to the car.

What did I learn?

  • Always carry and drink plenty of fluid
  • Always check your feet before doing a long walk
  • Always make sure your boot laces are fastened correctly
