My art work in the style of Bacon

Bacon

Personal history? (born and died.....lived.....early art history)

Francis Bacon was born in Dublin, Ireland, 28th of October 1909 and died on April 28th 1992 in Madrid, Spain. He lived in France, London and Berlin on money from his parents and from petty thieving and rent dodging.

What others thought of their work?

Some people thought bacons work was horrible, Margaret Thatcher famously described him as "that man who paints those dreadful pictures", but since his death his work has become more popular.

Their style?

Bacon's style was bold and nightmarish. Bacon disliked his face and deliberately painted self portraits in a scary abstract style.

Their choice of colour?

Bacon used a unique colour plate mainly consisting of browns. He used dark and light colours to make the pictures stand out.

The materials they used?

Bacon mostly used oil paints on canvas. The paint on some of his work looks like it has been scrapped on by card. He used broad brush strokes in some paintings.

Why I chose them?

I chose Bacon because he used a different sort of painting style to the other artist I had seen. I like the abstract way he paints, distorting his own image, and like the way he uses dark and light colours to make the paintings stand out.
